Blog Post #4

"Light Language", or what is typically called "speaking in tongues", has been described as essentially a transcription of the soul. It is not a "real" or learnable language, but that is not to say it is fake like Elvish or Klingon either. Essentially what happens is when the brain is under incredibly high levels of stress/duress, it will speak or think in this code that people, especially in the psychedelic user community, that they call "Light Language". Interestingly enough, it is also closely associated with Christian fundamentalists. In this sphere, it has been researched and actually measured neurologically to show things like decreased frontal lobe activity as it happens fully sober during fundamentalist/Pentecostal services where the people being studied eventually break out into speaking in tongues.

A lot of people, however, self report these things with a much more mystic view, one personal blog claiming that, "Light Language is a form of communication that bypasses human limitations around the meaning of words. As opposed to a language made up of symbols and sounds that we have mutually agreed upon as a society or culture, Light Language has no fixed alphabet. It is a vibrational expression that speaks directly to our soul and DNA." My takeaway from this is that this is something that bypasses human understanding despite it being essentially measurable, such as in scanning brain waves. Its not for us to decode, but the interesting thing is that it sounds and looks like its following a set of rules. After looking at several pieces of artwork, books, and personal accounts both from a religious viewpoint as well as one of mysticism, speaking in tongues cannot be ruled out as just gibberish. It sounds like a language with rules or structure when you see videos of people "speaking" it, and even across images of people who have attempted to transcribe it. Sure its very squiggly, but the writing does not appear random.

Whether this is actual discussion with or from a higher being is not something for us to prove, which I think is the whole point; Light Language is not for us to understand. Its ability to form some kind of structure across cultures is impressive enough, and ties back to a psychedelic understanding of connections and patterns (typically mathematical fractals) explored by a lot of DMT users. This is why I have decided to include it as part of my animation. The Light Language will be used on my character's invitation that he receives, essentially asking him to join a higher being for discussion.
